Treasury proposes rules for $1,700 federal tax credit funding K-12 scholarships
Treasury and the IRS released proposed rules for the federal Education Freedom Tax Credit, which starts January 1, 2027. Donors could cut their federal taxes by up to $1,700 for gifts to scholarship groups in the 30 states that have opted in. Critics say most of the money will flow to private school families.
